After having crocheted different bows over the last year, I have truly been inspired to be crochet a bow keychain. I can’t wait to crochet this in different colors so that I can attach it to my bag. I hope you enjoy this new tutorial!

Crochet Bow Charm Key Chain Free Pattern: A Dainty Project

For this project, I have used Drops Muskat yarn. This is one of my favorite yarns; it is a lovely 100% cotton yarn in a light/size 3 yarn. I have used this yarn many times at is not only high quality, but it also comes in many different colors.

The French coquette inspired beret I made a few months ago is made with this yarn.

This new bow pattern features a dainty and simple shape. As this is a little key chain design, it is a small bow that can be made in many different colors. Half Double Crochets are used for this pattern, making this a simple and very beginner friendly project.

You can also crochet this bow without a key ring or key chain if you want to. It is a very versatile project to crochet.

Notes concerning this pattern

For this project, we will start by crocheting the initial rectangle shape of the bow in the rounds.

Once this is completed, the bow shape will be given to the project by adding the center piece (as explained below in the pattern).

Once this is completed, we will be crocheting the ties of the bow, and sewing them onto the project (this is a simple rectangle that will be folded in half to create the two bottom ties; this is explained in detail in the pattern).

After this part is done, we will simply be attaching the key chain at the top of the project.

Begin pattern here

To start, make a slip knot.

Ch 32, slip stitching to 1st ch to create a circle shape. Please make sure you are not twisting the chain when you slip stitch.

Round 1: Ch 2 (=HDC), HDC into next chain until end of chain. Sl st to 1st st to close off round.

Round 2-6: repeat row 1.

Fasten off, leaving a 2 yard tail to create the rest of the project.

Project part 1

Create the center part of the bow (create shape)

Place your project on a flat surface, with the back part facing you. Make sure the seam of the project is centered (as seen in photograph above).

Take your yarn and attach it around the center of the project.

Now wrap your yarn around center of project approximately 32 times (see photo below):

To finish off this part, tie your yarn at the back of bow.

Create your hair ties (one rectangle which is then sewed onto the back of the project to create two different ties)

To begin, make a slip knot.

Chain 3.

1: HDC into 2nd chain from the hook, and into each chain across until the end of row (the first chain counts as a turning chain).

2: Ch 1 (=TC), turn your work, HDC into each stitch across until eor (=2 HDC total).

3-21: Repeat row 2.

Fasten off and tidy up all loose ends.

Sew the ties onto the bow

Fold the rectangle over to create two sides.

Once you’ve folded the rectangle to create tie shape, place it onto the back of the bow. Sew this part in place as seen in photograph below with tapestry needle and loose piece of yarn.

Sew project
Sew project together

Create little loop at the top of the project and attach key chain

With one of the pieces of yarn you used for sewing the project together, create a little loop at the top of the project (see photo below).

To finish off this project, fasten off and tidy up all loose ends.

Attach key chain to the loop to finish off project.
