Crochet Easy Flower Cardigan Free Pattern: The Inspiration
This cardigan has been a true labor of love. I have called it “The Cherry Blossom Cardigan”, as it inspired by the cherry blossoms that flourish during Spring. I love Japan and I love their cherry blossom flowers so much! They are the inspiration for this cardigan.

This cardigan features a simple yet elegant design. It features a simple Half Double Crochet stitch one row repeat throughout. Once all the parts of the cardigan have been crocheted, the cherry blossom flowers are then stitched onto the project.
If you enjoy this type of project, please do have a look at The Bella Cardigan from a few years ago. This crochet cardigan is similar but different. It is crocheted with chunky yarn and features puff flowers stitched onto the project. It’s a stunning and fun pattern to make.

Crochet Easy Flower Cardigan Free Pattern: A Perfect Gift
This crochet cardigan also makes a perfect gift for a loved one. It’s easy and fun to make. It also comes in lots of different sizes, from S to XXXL. Indeed, it is elegant and beautiful, and can be made in many different colors too.
For this project I used Hobbii Twister Solid XL yarn. This aran/medium 4 yarn is made from 55% cotton and 45% acrylic. This yarn is super soft and wonderful to work with for a cardigan. Indeed, the blend of acrylic/cotton yarn makes for a very lightweight project. This crochet cardigan is perfect for the Spring and Summer, as it is very breathable.

General Pattern Notes
We will be crocheting different parts of this project before sewing the cardigan together and stitching the flowers onto the project.
You will be making the back and the 2 front panels (together, there is no separation between the back and front panels), and 2 identical sleeves before sewing your cardigan together.
We will be sewing the flowers to the cardigan first to sleeves (before sewing them to the cardigan), and also to the front and back panels.
You will then be making the bottom edging, front opening edging and each sleeve cuff edging.

Sewing your flowers onto the cardigan
You can sew your flowers onto each part of the cardigan before sewing the project together.
Begin by placing your first sleeve on a flat surface, then placing your flowers as seen in photo below, sew them on neatly and delicately. Tidy up all loose ends.
Repeat process so as to cover the cardigan with flowers.

To sew your cardigan together
With wrong side facing, place your sleeves flat and fold in half (make sure you fold them so that the rows are vertical, see photo).

With tapestry needle and yarn, sew your seam across so as to create your sleeves.
Place your back and front panels as seen in photo below:

Once this is done, sew your sleeves onto each side of the cardigan. To do this, place your sleeve at the top of the cardigan on each side, so that the top of each sleeve joins the top of the body of the cardigan. Make sure the seams of your sleeves are facing down.

Now attach a piece of yarn to the top of the cardigan, where the top front panel is touching the sleeve; start sewing the sleeve and front panel together. Once you reach the bottom side of the sleeve, just carry on sewing the front and back panels together, without stopping. When you reach the bottom of the cardigan, fasten off.
Now turn your project around so as to sew in the back part of your sleeve to the back panel. Attach yarn at the top of shoulder, and sew both parts together. Once you reach the bottom of the sleeve, fasten off.
Repeat this process on the other side of the cardigan.
Add cuff edging (repeat process on both sleeve cuffs)
Attach yarn to first sleeve end (attach yarn to any stitch on the sleeve end).
Round 1: Ch 1 (counts as a SC),SC into each stitch across until eor.
Fasten off and tidy up all loose ends.
Add edging to the front opening of the cardigan
Attach yarn to the front opening of the cardigan; attach yarn to the first stitch at the bottom of either side of the front opening.
Row 1: Ch 1 (=SC), place a SC into next stitch until eor all the way around the front of cardigan, until you reach the other side of the front opening.
Row 2: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into each SC from previous row until eor.
Do not fasten off as we will be crocheting directly onto the bottom of the cardigan.
Add border to the bottom of the cardigan
Turn your work so as to work across the bottom edging of the cardigan.
1: Ch 1 (=SC), SC into next stitch until eor all the way around the bottom of cardigan.
2: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, DC into next stitch until eor.
3-5: Repeat row 2.
Fasten off and tidy up all loose ends.
