Crochet Easy French Beret Free Pattern

Hi everyone, this week I am pleased to release a new crochet Easy French Beret free pattern. This is a lovely and feminine accessory, perfect for the Autumn and Winter months. Inspired by the traditional chic of French fashion, this is a great project for beginners. This crochet beret looks beautiful in all seasons.

You can find the video tutorial for this project here:

Crochet Easy French Beret Free Pattern: A Traditional French Accessory

Berets are very popular in France. Indeed, women and men continue to wear berets in France, mostly throughout the Autumn and Winter. I crocheted a warm and cosy beret for Winter last year, which was very popular. This time however, I wanted to crochet a slightly finer, more refined beret. I used smaller yarn (as opposed to chunky last year), and I love the effect.

This is a very chic accessory that looks perfect in all seasons. If you are looking for a more Spring time beret, you can check out this traditional Spring beret tutorial I created in Spring. It is very fine and perfect for warmer weather, and I made it in my favorite color, pink.

I love berets, and I look forward to crocheting many more berets in the coming months. Let me know in the comments if you enjoy these as much as I do.

Crochet Easy French Beret Free Pattern: The Yarn

For this beret, I used Caron Simply Soft yarn in shade Autumn Red. I had been wanting to create an Autumnal look beret, and fell in love with this shade. This shade of red is very beautiful and elegant, without being too loud. It is a deep, velvety red which looks perfect for a beret.

Indeed, French style is very much about elegance and femininity. Less is always more in France, so a deep and refined red is very much perfect for this new version of a French beret. I love how beautiful and delicate it looks! It is perfect for beginners to crochet too, as it a simple enough pattern. If you love France and French fashion, you will love this beret. It is both sophisticated and discreet. I hope you enjoy this easy tutorial.

If you are looking for a warmer hat for the Winter, you can have a look at The Snow Princess Hat, which is a Winter hat with a pompom. This hat is perfect for much colder weather.

Although berets can also be worn when the weather is very cold. In this case, it would be styled directly over the ears, as opposed to slightly askew over the head. As I said before, France style is very much characterized by femininity, elegance and minimalism. Style should be harmonious and delicate, and definitely not over the top. So a low key and delicate beret is absolutely perfect if you want to have the signature French look.

2: Ch 2 (=HDC), place another HDC inside the first stitch (=2 HDC together in one stitch). Place 2 HDC inside next HDC until eor (=20 HDC total). Sl st to 1st ch 2 to close off round.

3: Ch 2 (=HDC), place another HDC inside the first stitch (=2 HDC together in one stitch). Place HDC in next st, [2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next st] until eor (=30 HDC total). Sl st to 1st ch 2 to close off round.

4: Ch 2 (=HDC), place another HDC inside the first stitch (=2 HDC together in one stitch). Place HDC in next 2 st, [2 HDC in next st, HDC in next 2 st] until oer (=40 HDC total). Sl st to 1st ch 2 to close off round.

5: Ch 2 (=HDC), place another HDC inside the first stitch (=2 HDC together in one stitch). Place HDC in next 3 st, [2 HDC in next st, HDC in next 3 st] until oer (=50 HDC total). Sl st to 1st ch 2 to close off round.

Round 6

Ch 2 (=HDC), place another HDC inside the first stitch (=2 HDC together in one stitch). Place HDC in next 4 st, [2 HDC in next st, HDC in next 4 st] until oer (=60 HDC total). Sl st to 1st ch 2 to close off round.

7: Ch 2 (=HDC), place another HDC inside the first stitch (=2 HDC together in one stitch). Place HDC in next 5 st, [2 HDC in next st, HDC in next 5 st] until oer (=70 HDC total). Sl st to 1st ch 2 to close off round.

8-17: Repeat this process, of adding 10 stitches per round. You can achieve this by always adding 1 HDC on its own in every section of each round. A section of a round is the part between the 2 HDCs in one stitch which are spaced all around the rounds evenly.

For example, round 8 will be as follows:

Ch 2 (=HDC), place another HDC inside the first stitch (=2 HDC together in one stitch). Place HDC in next 6 st, [2 HDC in next st, HDC in next 6 st] until oer (=80 HDC total). Sl st to 1st ch 2 to close off round.

Round 18 (to create beret shape)

Ch 1 (=SC), [sk 2 stitches, SC into next stitch, sk 1 st, SC into next st] until eor, finishing row with a SC. Sl st to first ch to close off round.

19: Ch 2 (=HDC), HDC into next st until eor. Sl st to first ch 2 to finish off round.

20: Repeat row 19.

Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.

Make sure you gently pull on center loose end (where we began), to close up centre. Weave in the end to avoid unraveling, fasten off loose end.
