Crochet Easy Market Bag Free Pattern: An Easy Project
I love making crochet bags. These are lovely and perfect in all seasons. Not only are crochet bags stylish, but these are also very practical. This stylish shopping bag is also perfect for a day out shopping. It features unique granny squares, which look so lovely on a bag.
If you are looking for a more elegant and stylish purse for your school books, please do have a look at this romantic ribbon bag. Inspired by the Coquette aesthetic, this purse is perfect for a day out too.
This new design is perfect for groceries too, as it features a filet crochet stitch and a sturdy bottom. This is an all purpose market bag which is also very pretty!
Crochet Easy Market Bag Free Pattern: A Pretty Cotton Yarn
I crocheted this bag with a sturdy cotton yarn, and I just love the effect! Indeed, for this market bag pattern I used Drops Paris, which I just love. This medium 4/Aran weight yarn is 100% cotton, making this yarn a great option if you are wanting a long wearing and durable project.
I have used this yarn many times. This textured and feminine French beret is made with this yarn, and it is the perfect beret for all seasons! Don’t forget to check it out if you want to crochet a matching beret to go with your new market bag.
The easiest scrunchie ever is also perfect in all seasons, and also made with Drops Paris yarn. I love how beautiful and versatile this durable scrunchie is. I hope you will enjoy crocheting these different projects with this yarn.

General notes concerning this pattern
For this project, the front and back panel, as well as the bottom of the bag will be crocheted to form just one long rectangle which will later be folded over to create the bag shape (as explained in detail below).
Once this is crocheted and the bag seamed to create the main shape, the two straps will also be directly crocheted onto the bag.
Pattern begins here
Make a slip knot and chain 50.
1: Place a HDC into the 4th chain from the hook; [ch 1, sk 1 chain, HDC into next chain] until eor.
2: Ch 3 (=HDC + chain space), turn your work, [skip chain space from previous row, HDC into HDC from previous row] until eor.
3-21: Repeat row 2.
22: Ch 2 (=HDC), turn your work, HDC into next stitch (including chain spaces from previous row) until eor.
23-30: Ch 2 (=HDC), turn your work, HDC into next stitch until eor.
31: Ch 3 (=HDC + chain space), turn your work, [ch 1, sk 1 chain, HDC into next chain] until eor.
32: Ch 3 (=HDC + chain space), turn your work, [skip chain space from previous row, HDC into HDC from previous row] until eor.
33-51: Repeat row 32.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing in first side.
Sew both sides of the bag in now:
Once you have finished crocheting this part, place project on a flat surface and fold over length wise (see photo below). Now sew first seam with long tail of yarn and tapestry needle. Once you have sewed the first side in, fasten off, tidy up your loose end.
Repeat the process on the other side, using a loose piece of yarn to sew this second seam in.
Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.
Now you will be crocheting the 2 straps onto the bag:
Your bag should still be the “wrong” side facing (this is the inside of the bag):
Attach yarn to a stitch approximately 1” from the top and 2” from the side of the bag.
Chain 75; making sure you don’t twist the chain, attach chain to the other side of the bag by slip stitching through a stitch.
Chain 2 (=HDC), HDC into the next chain until end of chain. Slip stitch to first stitch on the other side of bag.
Fasten off; go back into each side of the straps with tapestry needle and yarn to secure each side of the straps.
Repeat process on the other side of the bag so as to create 2 straps.
Turn bag inside out so that the right side is facing.
