Crochet Granny Square Patchwork Sweater Free Pattern: The Inspiration
This crochet sweater has been in the making for a long time now. Indeed, this new design features the the classic granny square. This crochet sweater is so unique, because it features solid color granny squares and granny squares crocheted in three different colors. Three different shades of pink are featured in this project.
This new crochet sweater design is so pretty, and nothing quite says “crochet” quite like a granny square! I love granny square designs, and this is definitely one of my favorite crochet designs to date! I can honestly say I have been working on this sweater for over a year now. Indeed, I had been working on it in early 2024, but when the Spring season hit, I thought it wiser to keep this sweater project until the cooler months arrived.
I am so pleased with how it’s turned out! It’s very cozy and unique, and comes in many different sizes too.
Crochet Granny Square Patchwork Sweater Free Pattern: A Unique Design
For this project, I used chunky weight yarn. This makes this particular sweater perfect for the colder months. Crocheted with Scheepjes Chunky Monkey yarn, this crochet granny patchwork sweater is classic yet timeless.
Almost four years ago I released this iconic patchwork cardigan in pastel colors. This cardigan is still one of my favorite crochet projects to date. I love it so much, and have been wanting to create a new patchwork project ever since.
This new patchwork sweater design features three different shades of pink, making this sweater very unique and feminine. These are the same colors I used recently for this crossbody bag from a few weeks ago.
I hope you enjoy this patchwork sweater design. It comes in many different sizes as explained in the pattern below, and it is both fun and feminine!

General notes concerning this pattern
For this project, we will be crocheting your different squares as stated below depending on each size.
Once these squares are crocheted, they will be stitched together to create the front panel, and then the back panel. A Double Crochet edging/neck shaping will be added to both the front and back panels once all the squares have been assembled.
Two sleeves are made after this (using more granny squares stitched together), and then each parts of the sweater will be sewed together as explained below in the pattern.
Once all the parts have been sewed together, a little simple edging is sewed onto each sleeve to create the cuffs.
Then a simple edging will be added to the bottom of the project. A little contrasting edging will also be added to the neck section to finish off project.

Sew seam of each sleeve in as follows (to create sleeve shape)
Fold your sleeve horizontally over (so that the shorter side is the width), and sew both sides together using the mattress stitch.
Sew sweater together
Place your front panel on a flat surface, with the right side facing. Place the back panel on top of the front panel symmetrically, with the wrong side facing.
Now sew the top shoulder part on each side of the project, using the mattress stitch (see photograph).

Attach a piece of yarn at the top of the front panel where the sleeve is joined. Using the mattress stitch, sew the front panel to the front of the sleeve. Once you reach the end of the sleeve, continue sewing the front and back panels together until you reach the bottom of the front/back panels.
Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.

Repeat process on the other side with the second sleeve.
