Crochet Jesus Cross Bookmark Free Pattern
Hi everyone, today I am bringing to you a crochet Jesus cross bookmark (free pattern). I hope you enjoy this lovely little decoration/bookmark that I made last year in honor of Easter. This is a great way to mark this year’s feast of Easter, and it makes such a wonderful gift too. Let me know in the comments if you enjoy making it!
The video tutorial for this project can be found here:
Crochet Jesus Cross Bookmark Free Pattern: The Inspiration
As I stated earlier, I crocheted this Cross bookmark for Easter last year. Last year, I wasn’t organized enough to be able to film a tutorial or write up a pattern in time for Easter. I then decided to do it properly for the year after, which is this year. Another perfect gift for Easter would be this Angel Prayer Shawl.
This lovely and delicate cross makes a perfect gift too! It’s easy to make and it looks lovely as a decoration too. My little boy loved this project so much he has kept it preciously as a decoration. He just loves it and treasures it. I can’t wait to make more of these crosses as gifts.
This cross makes a great bookmark too! I love how simple yet imposing it looks. For this project, I decided to make it in white. You can of course choose whichever color you prefer, but I do think white looks absolutely stunning!

Crochet Jesus Cross Bookmark Free Pattern: The Yarn
For this project, I decided to use a white 100% cotton yarn. The cotton yarn looks not only lovely, but it adds that extra little bit of “strength” to the project. Indeed, I find cotton yarn really great when I am making accessories and decorations. It gives a lot of structure and just looks really neat too.
Let me know in the comments if you love using cotton yarn for accessories too. For this pattern, I decided to use Drops Muskat yarn, which is a lovely mercerized 100% cotton yarn that comes in many different colors.ย This crochet granny square bag has also been crocheted with Drops Muskat yarn.

For this project, you can make two different sizes depending on your preference. Indeed, this pattern includes references to crochet this bookmark smaller or bigger. I made both versions and I loved them equally! Let me know in the comments if you enjoy this lovely and delicate design.

Pair of scissors
A stitch marker
Abbreviations
I will be writing in US terms (British terms in brackets)
Ch: chain
Sk: skip
SP: space
Sl st: Slip stitch
TC: Turning Chain
HDC: Double Crochet (UK Half Treble Crochet)
SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)
EOR: End of row
Pattern
Ch 8 [or chain 7 for smaller cross]
Complete rows as follows
1: HDC in 3rd ch from hook (first 2 ch counts as a HDC), HDC into next ch until the end of the chain.
2: Ch 1 (=TC), turn your work, HDC into 1st stitch and every stitch across until eor (including ch 2 from previous row).
3: Ch 1 (=TC), turn your work, HDC into 1st stitch and every stitch across until eor.
4-22: repeat row 3.
Fasten off.

Now we will be crocheting the 2 โsides of the crossโ.
Measure 4 rows from the top of the cross, and attach yarn to first side of the cross (make sure you attach the yarn at the top of the 4th row).
1: Place 8 Single Crochets [or place 7 Single Crochets for the smaller cross] across the first edge of the cross, going downwards.
2: Ch 1 (=TC), turn your work, place a HDC into each SC across.
3-4: Repeat row 2.
Fasten off. Repeat process on the other side. Once you have crocheted the second side of the cross, do not fasten off.

Single Crochet Edging
Now we will crocheting the Single Crochet edging all around the cross.
Place a stitch marker in the stitch where you finished your last HDC row.

Ch 1 (=TC), place a Single Crochet all the way around the cross; make sure you place your Single Crochets evenly all across the edge, as this will be the โwrongโ side of the stitches (meaning the row side, where there are no visible stitches).
Once you have placed your SC all around, slip stitch to your first SC and fasten off (take out your stitch marker).
Tidy up all loose ends.
