Crochet Lacy Vintage Mesh Shawl Free Pattern
Hi everyone, today I am bringing to you a crochet lacy vintage mesh shawl (free pattern). There’s something truly special about handmade pieces—especially when they combine simplicity, elegance, and a touch of romance.
The video tutorial is available here:
Crochet Lacy Vintage Mesh Shawl Free Pattern: A Delicate Accessory
This delicate pink shawl is a perfect example of how thoughtful stitch choices can create a lightweight, airy accessory that feels as beautiful as it looks. At the heart of this shawl lies the timeless mesh stitch. Its open, lacy structure gives the piece a breathable, almost weightless quality, making it ideal for layering through the seasons.
Two years ago, I crocheted The Rose Whisper Shawl which also features a delicate and feminine mesh stitch. This shawl is very pretty too, and features a lovely filet crochet design.
Whether worn on a breezy spring morning or a cool summer evening, the mesh stitch allows just enough warmth while maintaining an elegant drape. The geometric pattern also adds visual interest without overwhelming the design. It’s a wonderful reminder that sometimes, the simplest stitches create the most striking results.

The shell stitch border framing the shawl is a soft, contrasting shell stitch border that adds a gentle wave-like edge. This detail elevates the entire piece, giving it a refined and feminine finish. The subtle cream color beautifully complements the soft pink body, creating a harmonious and romantic palette. The shell stitch not only enhances the aesthetics but also provides a bit of structure, helping the shawl hold its shape while still remaining fluid and soft.
One of the best things about this shawl is its versatility. It can be worn in multiple ways: draped loosely over the shoulders for a casual, relaxed look; wrapped snugly around the arms for added warmth; styled as a scarf for a more modern, everyday outfit. The Therese Shawl I made a few years ago is also a great example of a simple light weight triangle shawl.
Crochet Lacy Vintage Mesh Shawl Free Pattern: A Versatile And Vintage Design
As stated above, this crochet shawl is very versatile. It is the perfect accessory for every occasion: paired with a floral dress, it creates a dreamy, cottage-inspired outfit. With jeans and a simple top, it becomes an effortlessly chic accessory.
This shawl is more than just an accessory—it’s a piece of craftsmanship. Every stitch reflects patience, care, and creativity. The combination of textures and colors makes it both timeless and unique, a piece that can be treasured for years. Whether you’re a crochet enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates handmade beauty, this shawl is a lovely reminder of how yarn and imagination can come together to create something truly special.

If you need more help, please watch the video tutorial which is linked at the top of the pattern.
Once you have finished the last row, fasten off shade Desert Rose.
Crochet the shell stitch edging
Notes concerning this shell stitch edging: we will be crocheting around the three sides of this shawl for the first round.
The second row will be crocheted on only two sides of the shawl (the “V” part).
Attach yarn in shade Off White to the stitch where we fastened off shade Desert Rose.
Round 1: ch 1 (=does not count as a stitch), place SCs across all three sides of this shawl, making sure you place these stitches evenly across.
There is not a specific amount of SCs you need to crochet, however these SCs need to be a multiple of 5.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn your work so that you are crocheting across the first side of the “V”; SC into the first stitch; * sk 2 stitches, 5 DC into the next stitch, sk 2 stitches, SC into the next stitch *; repeat from * until * until you reach the end of the row (second side of the “V”).
Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.
