Crochet Lavender Flower Shawl Free Pattern: A Victorian-Inspired Triangular Crochet Shawl in Treble C2C with Picot Border

This new crochet design is part of my Vintage Crochet Series. There is something timeless and romantic about a shawl inspired by the elegance of the Victorian era. Delicate textures, graceful drape, and refined finishing details come together in this triangular crochet design. Worked in the airy treble C2C (corner-to-corner) stitch and completed with a charming picot border, this shawl is very elegant. It feels like a piece that could have been worn during a quiet afternoon in a rose garden or draped over a lace dress by candlelight.

The treble C2C stitch creates a light, flowing fabric with beautiful movement. Unlike traditional C2C worked in double crochet, the taller treble stitches give the shawl an open, almost lace-like structure while allowing it to grow quickly and maintain an elegant drape. The diagonal construction enhances the graceful triangular shape, reminiscent of the refined silhouettes so characteristic of Victorian fashion.

I will be using US terms (British terms in brackets).

You will need

3 skeins of Paintbox Simply Aran in shade Tea Rose (you can substitute this yarn with Vanna’s Choice by Lion Brand)

1 skein of Paintbox Simply Aran in shade Champagne White (you can substitute this yarn with Vanna’s Choice by Lion Brand)

A 5,5 mm crochet hook

Pair of scissors

A tapestry needle

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

St: Stitch

Sl st: slip stitch

Sk: Skip

SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)

TC: Double crochet (UK Double Treble Crochet)

EOR: End of row

Begin pattern here

To start, make a slip knot.

1: Ch 7, TC in 5^th ch from the hook and in each st along (=4 TC).

2: Ch 7, turn work, TC in 5^h ch from hook and in each st along (=4 TC); turn work to sl st in between the 3^rd and 4^th TC from the previous row; ch 4 (counts as a TC throughout), and add 3 TC in between the 3^rd and 4^th TC from the previous row to form a square.

3: Ch 7, turn your work, TC in 5^th ch from hook, TC in each st along (=4 TC); sl st to previous square in between 3^rd and 4^th TC; ch 4 (=TC), and add 3 TC in that space, sl st to previous square in between 3^rd and 4^th TC. Ch 4 (=TC), and add 3 TC in that space, sl st to previous square in between 3^rd and 4^th TC.

4-34: repeat row 3, adding the required number of squares as you go along.

Fasten off shade Tea Rose.

Add a picot edging border

Attach shade Champagne White to the same stitch where you fastened off.

Notes concerning this edging: for the first round of this border we will be crocheting all around the shawl, but the second round (the picot edging round) will only be done on 2 sides of the shawl (the “V” sides).

Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), place a SC all around the three sides of the shawl. Remember to place SCs evenly across the three sides of the project, making sure you place enough (Single Crochets can tighten the project sometimes).

Once you have gone all around the shawl, slip stitch to the first stitch to close off round.

Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), * place a SC into the next 3 stitches; chain 3, slip stitch through the SC*; repeat from * until you reach the end of the second side (you will be placing your second round on only two sides, the “V” sides of the shawl).

Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.
