I love the preppy feel this crochet hair bow has. It’s so simple to make, yet it looks stunning. This crochet hair bow is also super fast to make; this makes this project great for a gift. I love this hair bow slide and I know I will be making many more as gifts in the future.

Crochet Lovely Preppy Hair Bow Free Pattern: A Simple Yarn Project

I love crochet projects that use a simple and “no frills” yarn. The yarn I used for this pattern falls into this category. This simple pattern is perfect and I love it. 

For this project, I used Wendy Supreme Aran in shade Baby Pink. This yarn is 100% acrylic yarn, in an aran weight. It is super pretty, and I found it recently buried under some more yarn in my yarn stash. I loved finding this yarn a few weeks ago, and I am so pleased I decided to use this for this project.

You can easily use another aran weight yarn of your preference for this pattern. This crochet design is very easily customizable, perfect for a gift.

Gauge

1,5” (4 cm): 5 stitches

1,5” (4 cm): 3 rows

Size of finished project (measured at largest and longest points)

10” (25,5 cm) x 6” (15,5 cm)

I will be using US terms (British terms in brackets).

Materials

1 skein of Wendy Supreme Aran in shade Baby Pink (you can also substitute with an aran/medium 4 yarn of your preference).

A 5 mm crochet hook

A pair of scissors

A tapestry needle

A 5 cm (or larger) hair slide to sew onto project

Darning needle and thread

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

St: stitch

Sl st: slip stitch

HDC: Half Double Crochet (UK Half Treble Crochet)

EOR: End of row

Notes concerning this pattern

For this project, we will start by crocheting the initial rectangle shape of the bow.

Once this is completed, the bow shape will be given to the project by folding the project a certain way and then adding the center piece (as explained below in the pattern).

After this part is done, we will simply be sewing the hair slide to the crocheted bow.

To start, make a slip knot.

Ch 101

1: HDC into the 3^rd ch from the hook, and HDC into each ch across (the first ch 2 counts as a HDC).

2: Ch 2 (=HDC), turn your work, HDC into next stitch until eor (including ch 2 from previous row).

3: Repeat row 2.

Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.

Create the center part of the bow (create shape)

Place your project on a flat surface, with the back part facing you. Fold your project over as seen in photograph below.

Take your yarn and attach it around the center of the project.

Tighten yarn gently so as to create the bow shape.

Now wrap your yarn around center of project approximately 20 times (see photo below):

To finish off this part, tie your yarn at the back of bow. Fasten off and tidy up all loose ends.

Sew the hair slide onto the back of the project

Place the hair slide at the center of the back of the project. With darning needle and thread, sew the hair slide onto the back of the project as seen in photograph below:
