Crochet Natural Beauty Pocket Shawl Free Pattern: The Inspiration

I have been wanting to crochet a new pocket shawl design for a long time. Indeed, I love crocheted pocket shawls so much! They are perfect in all seasons, and are so practical too. The pockets add an extra layer of snuggle and are very handy when the cold hits.

The Perfectly Pretty Pocket Shawl I made a few years ago is still one of my favorite crochet design to date. Made with Caron Simply Soft yarn, this shawl looks beautiful and elegant all at one. Again, I love pocket shawls so much, and this is the perfect example of a practical and elegant pocket shawl.

A pocket shawl is perfect as a crocheted gift too. Indeed, these projects are both beautiful and easy to wear too. A single shawl can be made in many different colors too. Therefore, this is a great project for so many different reasons.

Crochet Natural Beauty Pocket Shawl Free Pattern: The Suzette Stitch

This crochet shawl features the Suzette stitch. The Suzette stitch is very elegant and perfect for a warmer project. This textured stitch is perfect for a warmer shawl, such as the Natural Beauty pocket shawl.

This design is called the Natural Beauty as it is both elegant and feminine; it has a delicate vibe and subdued colors. A simple pale pink color is used for the majority of this pattern; a cream yarn is then used to create the delicate single crochet edging.

This is a very feminine pattern

I love that this edging is crocheted around the actual shawl, but also each individual pocket too. The Solange Cropped Sweater from a few years ago features the lovely Suzette stitch. This stitch is perfect if you want to make an elegant and textured design. This stitch is created by crocheting Single Crochets and Double Crochets in a specific pattern (explained below).

Pattern starts here

Ch 50

1: DC in 2nd chain from hook (1st chain counts as SC); [sk 1 ch, place SC and DC together in next stitch] until last 2 stitches. Sk 1 stitch, SC in last chain.

2: Ch 1 (=SC), turn your work, DC in same first stitch; [sk 1 stitch, SC and DC together in next stitch] until last 2 stitches. Sk 1 st, SC in last stitch.

3-until project measures 160 cm: repeat row 2.

Fasten off, tidy up your loose ends.

Border:

Attach yarn in shade Champagne White to one corner, and place a SC across the 4 sides of the shawl.

Make sure you place these SCs evenly across the four sides, as two of the sides will be the β€œwrong” side of the project.

Place two SCs together in each of the 4 corners.

There is not a specific number of SCs that need to be placed.

Pockets (make 2)

Ch 50

Row 1: HDC into 3rd ch from hook (first ch 2 counts as a HDC), and place a HDC into each ch until eor.

Row 2: Ch 2 (=HDC), turn your work, HDC into 2nd stitch and each stitch across.

Rows 3-13: Repeat row 2.

Fasten off shade Ballet Pink.

Single Crochet Border:

Attach yarn Champagne White to one corner.

Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), SC into this 1st stitch; place SC evenly across the 4 sides of the pocket.

Fasten off shade Champagne White, and tidy up all loose ends.

Repeat this process twice as we will need two pockets.

Place your pockets to the side for later.

Sew your pockets onto your shawl

Place your 1st pocket onto the right side of your shawl, making sure you are placing it as follows. Measure 3” (=7 cm) from the bottom edge, and place your pocket there, making sure you place it at the center (this was again in between 3,5” on either side for me). With long tail of yarn, sew in your pocket onto project.

Using your preferred stitch, start sewing your pocket in at the very top corner, going all the way down, and sewing the bottom of the pocket in. Then go all the way up again until you reach the other top corner of the pocket. Fasten off, leaving entire top of pocket free from sewing.

Repeat this onto the other side of shawl with the second pocket.

Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.
