Crochet Pumpkin Ornament Free Pattern: A Fall Home Decor Staple
Crocheted little pumpkins are a home decor staple for sure. I love how varied and different these look, depending on the color chosen to crochet them. For this project, I had so much fun testing different colors! Indeed, I really enjoyed crocheting these pumpkins in orange, mustard and light pink shades. I can’t wait to crochet many more too.
To be honest, I loved crocheting these pumpkins so much that I may make these in a bigger size too. I also saw these pumpkins made in a myriad different types of yarn, including fluffy and super chunky yarns. This is something I will definitely be making for sure.
If you are looking for more home decor ideas for fall, please do check out this super chunky hand crocheted blanket. I made it a few years ago, and it is perfect for fall and winter.
Crochet Pumpkin Ornament Free Pattern: The Yarn
For this project, I used very simple 100% acrylic yarn. I decided to go with aran weight yarn, as I thought it would be best for this project. Indeed, aran weight yarn has a tendency to build up fast, but still looks beautiful once crocheted.
As stated above, I loved using different shades and textures of yarn for these pumpkins. Firstly, I used Paintbox Simply Aran for two of these pumpkins. I love this yarn so much, as it is so soft and beautiful, perfect for creating little ornaments.
For the last pumpkin I created, I used Caron Simply Soft aran weight yarn in a sparkly beige shade. This yarn looks so pretty and creates the most pretty Coquette inspired pumpkin! Let me know if you prefer lighter more unusual shades for your pumpkins, or if you prefer the more classic oranges and mustard shades. I would love to know!

Ch 20, (23)
1: HDC in 3rd chain from the hook, HDC into each ch until end of row (first ch 2 counts as a HDC).
2: Ch 1 (=turning chain throughout), turn your work, HDC into front facing loop of the bottom of each HDC from prvious row (see photo below for more details) until eor.
3: Ch 1, turn your work, HDC into the back loop only of each HDC until eor (see photo below).
4-until project measures 12” across (or 15,5” across for size M): alternate rows 2 and 3.
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.
Create pumpkin shape
Fold project over. With tapestry needle and loose end, start sewing both sides of the pumpkin together using the mattress stitch.
Now we will be creating the bottom shaping of the pumpkin by “closing” the bottom side. Using your loose end still and tapestry needle, go in and out of the project across the bottom seam so that when you gently pull on it, it closes up (see photo).
Now we will be stuffing the project with the stuffing so as to fill the pumpkin up, before seaming the top section.
Gently push the stuffing into the project, so that it is nice and full.
Now you will sew the top of the project up using the same method we used for the bottom.
Create pumpkin “shaping”
We will now create the pumpkin shaping using the loose end and tapestry needle. If your loose end is too small, attach new piece of yarn to the center top of the pumpkin.
Go across the first side of the pumkin and pull gently on yarn to create an indent. Now go across the other side to create symmetrical indent; repeat this process so that you have eight symmetrical indents in total.
Make a knot and fasten off yarn.
Stem
With crochet hook and Stylecraft Special aran in shade mocha, you will make a slip knot.
Ch 8
Row 1: HDC into 2nd chain from hook.
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing into top of the project.
With tapestry needle and loose end, sew the stem onto the top of the project (see photo).
Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.
