Hi everyone, today I am bringing to you a crochet Sparkly Vintage Shawl free pattern. Crocheted with a lovely aran weight sparkly yarn, this shawl is very feminine. This design is also part of my Vintage Crochet Series, and perfect for all seasons.

Crochet Sparkly Vintage Shawl Free Pattern: The Design

This crochet shawl is inspired by the Victorian era. Indeed, this crochet pattern is very feminine and features a lot of this era’s details. The Victorian era spanned the years 1837 to 1901, in England. This era’s fashion was characterized by simple yet feminine designs. 

This new shawl design is made with what I would call a Victorian rose color. Called “the Sparkly Vintage Shawl”,  this pattern is part of my Vintage Crochet Series. Crocheted with a yarn called Mainstays from Walmart, in America, this shawl features a filet crochet pattern and shell stitch edging. This yarn is of a medium 4/aran weight, and it can easily be substituted with Caron Simply Soft yarn, for example.

The yarn I used has a lovely sparkle to it; this sparkle is so subtle and delicate. This sparkle is so lovely and delicate, perfect for the Christmas and festive season. Let me know in the comments if you will be crocheting a sparkly shawl for this coming festive season.

Crochet Sparkly Vintage Shawl Free Pattern: The Inspiration

As stated above, I was inspired to crochet this shawl because I had this sparkly yarn sent to me by a lovely subscriber. I loved working with this yarn that has come directly from America. This yarn color is so lovely and delicate, and immediately made me think of the Victorian era.

The filet crochet design is directly inspired by another popular pattern I made a few months ago. Indeed, the lovely festival inspired bandana I made a while back features the exact same design. When I released the bandana project, some lovely followers suggested that I create a shawl design with this filet crochet pattern and shell stitch edging.

4” (10 cm): 7 rows

Size of finished shawl 

35” x 59,5” (89 cm x 150 cm)

Notes

I will be using US terms (British terms in brackets).

You will need

3 skeins of Mainstays yarn in shade Rose Fume; you can also use 3 skeins of Caron Simply Soft in your preferred shade also.

5,5 mm crochet hook

A pair of scissors

A tapestry needle

Measuring tape

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

St: stitch

Sl st: slip stitch

Sp: space

SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)

DC: Double Crochet (UK Treble Crochet)

EOR: End of row

To begin

To start, make a slip knot.

Ch 4, sl st through 1^st chain to form a ring.

1: Ch 3 (= DC), 5 DC in ring; ch 2, 6 DC in ring.

2: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, DC in 1^st stitch, [ch 1, sk 1 st, DC] until penultimate stitch before ch 2 space at top of project; sk last stitch, place 2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC in chain 2 space; sk 1 stitch, [DC in next stitch, ch 1, sk 1 st, DC] until you reach last stitch; place 2 DC into last stitch.

3: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place another DC into 1^st stitch; place a DC into next stitch until eor, including chain spaces.

4-38: alternate rows 2 and 3, finishing on a row 3.

Do not fasten off.

Shell stitch edging

Ch 1 (=SC), turn your work; place a SC into the next DC from previous row, and now go directly into the next chain space and place 7 DC into it (=first stitch).

* Go directly into the next chain space, and place a SC into this; now go directly into the next chain space and place 7 DC. *

Repeat from * to * until you reach the top of the shawl (the 2 DCs on the first side); you should have placed a shell stitch into the last chain space on the first side; now skip the first DC from previous row, and place a DC directly on top of the next DC.

Chain 2, and go directly onto the other side where we will be crocheting the rest of the shell stitch edging. Place a DC on top of the first DC on the first side, then skip the next DC from previous row.

Now place your first shell stitch directly into the first chain space on this side (=7 DC); go directly into the next chain space with a SC.

* Go directly into the next chain space, and place a 7 DC into this; now go directly into the next chain space and place a SC. *

Repeat this pattern until you reach the end of the row; you should have placed your last shell stitch into the last chain space on this side; now place a SC into the next 2 DC from the previous row.

Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.

Please be mindful to properly close and sew in the beginning circle of the project (where we began), so as to make sure that your project will not unravel.
