Crochet Summer Sunset Headband Free Pattern: A Lovely Design
This new headband design is so pretty and feminine. I hope you enjoy this crochet project as much as I did making this! This is a perfect project for beginners. It looks beautiful in all seasons, and it is so perfect for the Spring and Summer.
If you enjoy making crochet headbands, please do check out this feminine headband I made a few years ago. This has been one of my most popular crochet tutorials to this day, and I hope you enjoy it too.
This Summer, I wanted to bring a dainty yet intricate headband design to you. Crocheted with aran weight yarn, this headband features a simple design. Featuring a filet crochet design throughout, this headband also features a shell stitch edging.
Crochet Summer Sunset Headband Free Pattern: The Yarn
For this new headband project, I used one of my favorite yarns. I used Vireo yarn by Universal Yarns for this headband. This yarn is made from 80% tencel and 20% wool, and it is a medium 4 (aran weight yarn). I love this yarn so much as it has a great drape.
The Vintage Beauty Shawl I made a few weeks ago is also made with this yarn. These projects match completely, and I love both these projects. As I stated before, I love using this yarn as it really looks beautiful once crocheted up.
This headband is really fun and easy to crochet, and it can be made in many different colors too. Today, I have used this yarn in shade Apricot Tart (in French, Tarte Aux Abricots). I am really looking forward to using many different colors of Vireo yarn.

Abbreviations
I will be writing in US terms (British terms in brackets)
Ch: chain
Sk: skip
SP: space
Sl st: Slip stitch
HDC: Half Double Crochet (UK Half Treble Crochet)
DC: Double Crochet (UK Treble Crochet)
SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)
EOR: End of row
Pattern
Ch 60 (this pattern requires a multiple of 2)
1: HDC in 3rd ch from hook (first 2 ch counts as a HDC), HDC into next ch until the end of the chain.
2: Ch 3 (=HDC+1 ch sp), turn your work, HDC into 3rd stitch, *ch 1, sk 1 ch, HDC in next st* until EOR.
3: Ch 2 (=HDC), turn your work, HDC in next stitch until eor (including chain spaces from previous row).
Shell stitch edging
We will be crocheting the shell stitch edging firstly across the last row that we made, before slip stitching through the first side of the project so as to be able to crochet the second shell stitch edging row across the other side of the project (which is also the chain from the beginning).
Shell stitch edging row: ch 1 (=turning chain), place a SC into first stitch; sk 1 stitch, place 5 DC into the next stitch (=shell stitch); [sk 2 stitches, SC into the next stitch, sk 2 stitches, 5 DC into next stitch] until you reach last 2 stitches; sk 1 stitch, place a SC into the next (and last) stitch.
Do not fasten off.
Now turn your work so as to work across the short “side” of the headband; place slip stitches across this side so as to reach the other side of the headband, so we can work our second row of shell stitches across the chain side from the beginning.
Turn your work again and repeat row of the shell stitch edging we did on the first side, this time working the stitches across the other side of the headband, which is also the chain side.
Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew the elastic band to the project.
To sew project together
Take elastic band and place a knot into the middle of it; sew one side of headband to the elastic with tapestry needle, making sure you sew the entire width of headband to elastic; making sure you don’t twist project, sew on second side to other side of elastic.
Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.
