There is a quiet, timeless beauty in this crochet shawl — a piece that feels as though it could have stepped gracefully out of the Edwardian era. This crochet shawl is part of my Vintage Crochet Series.

This lovely shawl is actually a remake of the Madeleine shawl pattern I created five years ago. I firstly cannot believe it has been five years since making this shawl. Secondly, this beautiful design definitely needed a refresh! I hope you enjoy this new take on a timeless shawl.

The shawl rests lightly against the body, enhancing the silhouette without overwhelming it. 3 skeins of Sirdar N°1 DK in shade 234 Dusky Rose, or any other yarn of your preference in DK/Light 3 weight

A 4 mm crochet hook

A tapestry needle

Pair of scissors

Abbreviations

ch: chain

sk: skip

SP: space

SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)

DC: Double Crochet (UK Treble Crochet)

TC: Treble Crochet (UK Double Treble Crochet)

Sl st: Slip stitch

EOR: End of row

Pattern

Ch 72

1: SC into 2^nd ch from hook, *5 ch, sk 3 ch, 1 SC into next ch*, repeat * until last 2 ch; 2 ch, sk 1 ch, DC into last ch

2: Turn your work; 1 ch, SC into same 1^st st, miss 2 ch sp, *7 DC into next 5 ch arch, 1 SC into next arch **, 5 ch, 1 SC into next arch*, repeat from* ending last repeat at **, sk ch 2 sp, 2 ch, 1 TC into last stitch.

3: Turn your work; 1 ch, 1 SC into same 1^st st, *5 ch, 1 SC into 2^nd DC from previous 7 DC fan, 5 ch, 1 SC into 6^th DC from previous 7 DC fan **, 5 ch, 1 SC into next 5 ch sp*; repeat from * and ending last repeat at **, 2 ch, 1 TC into last stitch.

4-140 rows: repeat rows 2 and 3

Carry on until you reach 140 rows.

Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.
