Crochet The Louis Baby Blanket Free Pattern

Today I am bringing to you a brand new project, on how to crochet the Louis Baby Blanket (free pattern). This crochet baby blanket has a vintage vibe to it. It is also a very easy crochet blanket to make.

You can find the video tutorial for this project here:

This is a perfect baby blanket if you are looking to make one. It’s really easy and beginner friendly, but does break away from the usual Granny Square pattern. Indeed, for this project I used the Solid Granny Square stitch, which creates a beautiful and colorful effect.

Crochet The Louis Baby Blanket Free Pattern: The Inspiration

Of course, this beautiful blanket was inspired by my gorgeous little boy. I had wanted to crochet him a new blanket for a while, but got caught up in other projects in the meantime. Finally, this week I completed this lovely and sweet blanket, and named it Louis, after my son of course.

Caron Baby Cakes is perfect for baby projects

I had so much joy while I made this project for him. The yarn I used is Caron Baby Cakes (3 skeins), and you know I adore this soft and squishy yarn! It also works up quickly, because it is an Aran weight yarn. This also provides extra warmth for your little one, perfect for the Winter months. The best part about Caron Baby Cakes is that they come in pastel colours for both boys and girls, perfect for baby crochet gifts.

Crochet The Louis Baby Blanket Free Pattern: Behind The Pattern

The pattern used for this blanket is the solid granny square pattern. This means that it is a continual square we are crocheting, with repeat rows of Double Crochets on top of the Double Crochets from the previous row. My pattern and video tutorial take you through this pattern step by step. This repeat stitch is perfect for beginners, and makes an absolutely delightful pattern!

The edging is called a chain arch edging. It is a very dainty and traditional border for any project. I adore this edging, which puts me in mind of medieval iconography somehow. I love the old fashioned look it gives to this baby blanket.
