Delicate and feminine, this vintage bonnet is inspired the Victorian era. Indeed, this bonnet features lovely ties on each side that can be tied to form a little bow.

Crochet Vintage Bonnet Hood Free Pattern: The Inspiration
This new crochet pattern is part of my Vintage Crochet Series. I love the Vintage Crochet Series, as this series features some of my favorite projects. Indeed, this crochet series features lots of different projects, such as shawls and berets, for example.
I have been wanting to crochet a Victorian inspired bonnet for a long time now. A few weeks ago, I made a Victorian Hooded Shawl With Bow Ties. I personally love this project so much; indeed, this crochet design is so feminine and beautifully vintage. These ties make this crochet shawl so dainty, and I really wanted to create a hood with a bow tie.
This design is very simple. Indeed, this project features a simple long rectangle; once this rectangle is made, a hood is then added. So this crochet bonnet is literally so simple and elegant. Let me know if you enjoy this crochet project as much as I!
Crochet Vintage Bonnet Hood Free Pattern: The Yarn
For this project, I used Caron Cloud Cakes. I absolutely love this yarn so much, and cannot believe this yarn has been discontinued. Previously, I made a few crochet shawls with this beautiful ombre yarn. This Vintage Victorian Shawl from a few years ago is made with this beautiful Caron Cake yarn.
Indeed, this yarn is so beautiful and dainty. I absolutely love the effect this ombre yarn on every project I have ever made using it. For this new project, I doubled up the yarn so that it would be thicker. Indeed, I wanted to create a more chunky yarn effect. Doubling up this yarn created a lovely effect that felt exactly like a chunky weight yarn.
If you cannot get your hand on this specific yarn, I recommend using Lion Brand Feels Like Butta yarn or Lion Brand Mandala yarn; of course, you should double up these yarns to create a chunkier effect. You could also use a chunky yarn too. Let me know which yarn you use for this project, I would love to know!

Begin pattern here
To start, make a slip knot. Please remember that we will be doubling up the yarn throughout the project (except for sewing the hood where we will only use one strand of yarn). This means that you will be using two strands of yarn as we crochet to make the yarn thicker.
Chain 134.
1: HDC into 3rd ch from hook (first 2 ch counts as HDC), HDC into each ch across until eor.
2: Ch 2 (=HDC), turn your work, place a HDC into each stitch across until eor.
3: repeat row 2.
Create hood
Place project on flat surface, and fold this long rectangle in half. Measure 11,5” from the center fold, and place a stitch marker on each side of project.
This space (between the two stitch markers) is where we will be crocheting the hood.
Attach yarn to the stitch on the right of project.
Row 1: Ch 2 (=HDC), place HDC into each stitch across until you reach the second stitch marker.
Row 2-23: repeat row 1.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing the hood seam.
Create hood shape
Fold the hood in two so as to form the hood shape (see photo below). Once you have folded the hood over, sew both sides of the hood to create the hood with loose end and tapestry needle. For this seam you can use the mattress stitch.
Once you have finished sewing your hood, fasten off and tidy up your loose end.
