Materials

2 skeins of Mandala Sparkle Yarn by Lion Brand Yarns

A 5 mm crochet hook

A tapestry needle

A pair of scissors

A measuring tape (optional)

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

Sk: skip

SP: space

Sl st: Slip stitch

Ch sp: chain space

DC: Double Crochet (UK Treble Crochet)

SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)

EOR: End of row/end of round

Pattern

Ch 49

1: DC in 4^th chain from hook (first 3 ch counts as a DC), DC into next ch until eor.

2: Ch 4 (=DC+ch 1), turn your work, sk a stitch, DC into next stitch until eor; [ch 1, sk 1 stitch, DC into next stitch] until eor.

3: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, DC into next stitch until eor (including chain spaces from previous row).

4-87: Repeat rows 2 and 3.

Do not fasten off.

Shell stitch edging

We will be crocheting this edging all across the shawl (4 sides).

Round 1: Ch 1 (=does not count as a stitch), and place SCs all along the first “side” of the shawl; once you reach the corner, place 2 SCs together before turning your project sideways and placing SCs all along the second “side” of the shawl.

Repeat this process of placing SCs all along the four sides of the shawl, making sure you space them evenly as you go along. Always place 2 SC into each corner of the project.

Note: there isn’t a specific number of SCs that need to be placed all across the edge of the shawl, however these SC need to be a multiple of 5.

Once you place your last SC into the project, slip stitch under the first SC at beginning of round.

Round 2: Chain 1, SC into first stitch; sk 2 stitches; [place 5 DC into the next st (=shell), sk 2 stitches, place a SC into next st] until last 5 stitches. Sk 2 stitches, place 5 DC into next st, sk 2 st, place a SC into last stitch. Slip stitch under first stitch to close off round.

Fasten off and tidy up all loose ends
