Hi everyone, today I am bringing to you this crochet Winter Flower Shawl (free pattern). This crochet shawl is perfect for all seasons, and can be crocheted very fast too. The yarn I used for this project is very lovely, featuring soft pastel colors.

Crochet Winter Flower Shawl Free Pattern: The Inspiration

This crochet shawl is part of my Vintage Crochet Series. Indeed, this lovely crochet shawl is inspired by a shawl from 19th Century France. This shawl shawl features a delicate V shape and three different stitches. 

During the 19th Century, romanticism was very popular. Shawls and accessories featured soft pastel colors, a flowy shape and a feminine design. If you enjoy these types of projects, please do take a look at the Vintage Beauty Shawl I crocheted a few months ago.

V shaped shawls were also very popular in the 19th century. This shape is very elegant and also very handy, as it can be tied at the back (like a sontag). Let me know in the comments if you love this as much as I!

Crochet Winter Flower Shawl Free Pattern: The Yarn

For this project, I used Loops And Threads yarn from Michaels. This ombre yarn is so beautiful, perfect for all seasons. It is made from 75% polyester and 25% acrylic, and is very soft and dainty. I love this yarn so much!

If you recall, I had crocheted the Summer Sunset Sweater with this very yarn (but different shade). I loved crocheting this sweater so much, especially with such a wonderful yarn. It is very soft and creates a very subtle ombre pattern. 

For this new shawl design, I used shade Rose, Sky Blue, Lilac. It is perfect for a mid season shawl, creating a very soft and almost opalescent effect. I love this shade! This yarn is of a light 3/DK weight, and I find this to be one of my favorite types of yarn to work with.

I will be using US terms (American terms).

You will need

3 skeins of Loops and Threads Soft Ombre yarn in shade Rose/Sky Blue/Lilac, or your favorite 100% acrylic yarn in a light 3/DK weight yarn

5 mm crochet hook

A pair of scissors

A tapestry needle

Measuring tape

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

St: Stitch

Sl st: slip stitch

Sk: Skip

SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)

DC: Double crochet (UK Treble Crochet)

EOR: End of row

Begin pattern here

To start, make a slip knot. Ch 4, sl st through 1^st stitch to form a ring.

Puff stitch pattern: [yarn over, go into stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops] 4 times; yarn over and pull through all 5 loops, chain 1 to close off stitch.

1: Ch 3 (= DC), 2 DC, ch 1, 3 DC in ring; ch 2, 3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC in ring.

2: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into same first stitch; DC into next DC until ch 1 from previous row; ch 1, skip 1 stitch, DC into next DC until ch 2 space; in ch 2 space, place 2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC; now DC into next DC until ch 1 space from previous row; ch 1, skip 1 stitch, DC into next DC until end of row, placing 2 DC into last stitch.

3-38: Repeat row 2.

Row 39 (puff stitch row): Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC inside same 1^st stitch (=2 DC into the first stitch); * sk next stitch, place puff stitch into next stitch (see above for puff stitch pattern) *, repeat from * to * until you reach ch 1 space; if necessary, place a DC before the chain 1 space; ch 1, sk a stitch, place DC into next stitch. Now repeat the bobble stitch, sk 1 stitch pattern until you reach the ch 2 space at the top of the shawl; at the top of the shawl, place 2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC into ch 2 space; repeat the same pattern on the other side of the shawl until you reach the end of the row (do not forget the chain 1 space in the middle of row); place 2 DC in the last stitch of this row.

Row 40 (normal row): ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, DC into same first stitch; now place 2 DC onto top of bobble stitches from previous row until you reach the ch 1 sp; if necessary, place a DC before and after the chain 1 space; at chain 1 space, ch 1 and sk the stitch, and then carry on with pattern of placing 2 DC into the bobble stitches until you reach the ch 2 at the top of the shawl; in the chain 2 at top of the shawl, place 2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC; now repeat pattern across the other side of the shawl until you reach the last stitch; place 2 DC into the last stitch.

Row 41: repeat row 39.

Row 42: repeat row 40.

Row 43: repeat row 39.

Row 44: repeat row 40.

Row 45: repeat row 39.

Row 46: repeat row 40.

Row 47 (1^st row of border): Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place another DC into the same first stitch; skip a stitch, ch 1, DC in next stitch until you reach the end of row. Place 2 DC into the the last stitch.

Row 48: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), turn your work, SC into the next stitch; place another 7 DC into the next ch 1 space from previous row; SC into next space,* place 7 DC into the next space, SC into the next space * until you reach the end of your row.

Fasten off and tidy up all loose ends.
