Crochet Nursery Cushion Tutorial

Hi everyone! Today I am bringing to you a tutorial on how to crochet a Nursery Cushion.

I hope you are well. This week I want to share with you how to make this beautiful crochet applique nursery cushion. As you can see it matches the nursery applique DIY decoration that I shared last week on the blog and Youtube. I hope you like it, it is very easy to make. It’s a perfect gift for a baby shower too. This set is a great project to make either for your own baby, and like I previously said, it can be a lovely gift too.

I have posted a video tutorial for this cushion on Youtube, just follow the link to watch it: Crochet Nursery Cushion Video Tutorial

Crochet Nursery Cushion Tutorial: a gift for my future baby

I created this crochet nursery cushion for my future baby, and so I absolutely loved crocheting this cushion for his or her nursery. I don’t know the gender yet, so cannot wait to find out once baby is born!

This crochet cushion is lovely and a quick project. It can satisfy the beginner as well as the more advanced crochet lover.

I have also made a free PDF pattern you can download here Nursery applique cushion

I hope you enjoy this project, let me know if you have any questions in the comments section.

Crochet Nursery Cushion Tutorial: The Pattern

Level: Easy

Notes: I will be using US terms

Materials:

1 skein of Bellissima DK yarn by Stylecraft, shade n°3929 grey (size 3 light yarn for the US)

A 4 mm crochet hook

Pair of scissors

Sheet of paper and a pencil

1 felt sheet (white)

Stuffing

Some white darning thread and a darning needle

Abbreviations :

SC = Single crochet

DC = Double crochet

Ch = Chain

To start :

Make 2 pieces as follows (= 2 sides of the cushion measuring approximately 9″x 9″ each).

Using your Bellissima yarn and 4 mm crochet hook, chain 38.

Complete rows as follows:

1: SC in 2nd chain from the hook, then *DC in next stitch, SC in next stitch*. Repeat from * for remainder of this row, alternating between SC and DC.

2: Chain 3 (counts as first DC), turn your work, *SC in next stitch, and DC in next stitch*. Continue from * to end of row.

3: Chain 1 (counts as first SC), turn your work, *DC in SC from previous row, SC in DC from previous row*, repeat from * to end of row.

4-end: Repeat row 2 and 3 until piece measures 9 inches long in total. Fasten off.

Once you have made your 2 pieces, we can carry on with this design :

Taking your pencil and piece of paper, draw a doe motif (or you can use your motif from last week if you followed that DIY).

Cut out your doe motif, and cellotape it to your felt sheet. Delicately cut out your felt sheet following the paper motif.

Choose one side of one of the crocheted cushion pieces to sew your motif on.

With the darning needle and white thread, sew the motif on,using the straight edge method, making sure the stitch is nice and neat but still visible.

Once the motif is nice and secure, proceed to sew both sides of the cushion together with a tapestry needle, and using the mattress stitch. Leave one side unsewn.

Proceed to fill the cushion with stuffing, making sure it is nice and full.

Sew the last side to close the cusion.

And you’re done ! Thank you for your interest, and I hope you enjoyed making your project. I will be back next week with a new crochet project so stay tuned!
