Pastel Petals Crochet Circular Shawl Free Pattern

Hi everyone, today I am bringing to you the Pastel Petals Crochet Circular Shawl (free pattern). This crochet shawl is both elegant and feminine, perfect for the coming Spring. This circular ruffled shawl feels both cozy and feminine. It’s perfect for cool mornings, quiet evenings, or simply adding a handmade touch to your outfit.

The video tutorial for this project can be found here:

Pastel Petals Crochet Circular Shawl Free Pattern: A Circular Design That Flows Naturally

Unlike traditional triangular shawls, this piece is worked in a circular shape that drapes beautifully around the shoulders. The construction creates a gentle flow in the fabric, allowing the shawl to sit comfortably without needing constant adjustment.

The circular structure also highlights the rhythm of the stitches, forming subtle radiating lines that spread out from the neckline. As the shawl grows, it naturally develops a graceful, cape-like silhouette. The Polina Shawl is also a lovely circular shawl made with a pretty variegated yarn.

Pastel Petals Crochet Circular Shawl Free Pattern: Soft Pastel Stripes

The yarn used for this shawl creates lovely pastel stripes in shades of pink, lavender, and soft blue. Theses delicate colors blend together beautifully, giving the piece a light and dreamy feel. Because the colors shift gradually, the shawl has a calm and harmonious look that works well with many outfits. Whether worn with a simple dress, a cozy sweater, or even over lounge wear, it adds a delicate pop of color.

The Winter Flower Shawl is also crocheted with this exact yarn (Loops And Threads yarn from Michaels). This yarn is perfect for shawls and Spring accessories.

This crochet design is so dainty!

What truly makes this shawl stand out if the ruffled edging. The soft cream-colored border adds contrast while framing the entire piece. The ruffles bring movement and texture, transforming a simple shawl into something whimsical and elegant. They give the edges a lively shape that dance slightly with every step. Ruffles are a wonderful finishing touch because they create volume without making the shawl feel heavy.

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

St: Stitch

Sl st: slip stitch

Sk: Skip

DC: Double Crochet (UK Treble Crochet)

SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)

EOR: End of row

To begin

For this part you will be using Caron Blossom Cake.

To start, make a slip knot. Ch 4, sl st through 1st stitch to form a ring.

1: Ch 3 (=DC), 6 DC into ring (=7 DC in total).

2: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into 1st DC from previous row (=2 DC in same stitch), 2 DC into each DC from previous row until eor (=14 DC).

3: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into 1st DC from previous row (=2 DC in same stitch), [DC into next DC, 2 DC into next DC] until eor.

4: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into 1st DC from previous row (=2 DC in same stitch), [DC into next 2 DC, 2 DC into next DC] until eor.

5: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into 1st DC from previous row (=2 DC in same stitch), [DC into next 3 DC, 2 DC into next DC] until eor.

6: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into 1st DC from previous row (=2 DC in same stitch), [DC into next 4 DC, 2 DC into next DC] until eor.

7: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into 1st DC from previous row (=2 DC in same stitch), [DC into next 5 DC, 2 DC into next DC] until eor.

8: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place a DC into 1st DC from previous row (=2 DC in same stitch), [DC into next 6 DC, 2 DC into next DC] until eor.

9-39: repeat rows as previously explained, making sure you always add one DC on it’s own per row in between the 2 DC together in one stitch. For instance, this means row 9 will go like this:

Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, DC in same first stitch (=2 DC in same stitch). Now you just need to add 1 DC into the next 7 stitches; after these 7 DC, just add 2 DC together in one stitch. Now just place 7 DC in each DC along, then 2 DC together, etc, until the end of this row.

Repeat this process row after row, and this will gradually enlarge your shawl in the shape of an arc circle.

Frilly edging border

For this part you will be using Stylecraft Bambino Double Crochet in shade Clotted Cream. For the first row, we will be going all around the shawl; rows 2 and 3 will only be crocheted on the circular edge of the shawl.

Attach yarn to one side of the arched part of the shawl.

1: Ch 1 (=does not count as a stitch), place a SC into the first stitch, and each stitch all the way around the shawl until the eor. Slip stitch to the first SC to close off round.

2: Ch 3 (=DC), place 2 more DC into the 1st stitch (=3 DC together); place 3 DC into next stitch and all stitches across the circular side of the shawl.

3: Ch 3 (=DC), place a DC into the next stitch until the end of the row (still the circular side of the shawl).

Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.
