Crochet Easy Shopping Bag Free Pattern: A Unique Design

This new crochet shopping bag design features this lovely flower granny square. I designed this feminine granny square last year. To be honest I love this feminine granny square so much; it is so beautiful and delicate.

This flower granny square is so dainty. I used it many times for different designs, and I still love this unique design so much! Last year I crocheted this tote bag that is slightly larger, but just as elegant. I love crochet bags so much, and you can find many of these unique designs on my blog.

This lovely headband also features this flower granny square. It has been very popular since it’s been released, and I love this headband so much. Let me know if you enjoy crocheting granny square projects as much as I do. I know that crocheting granny squares really relaxes me, and puts me in such a good mood too.

Pattern begins here

For this project, we will start by making 10 individual flower Granny Squares in the three different colors indicated above, and as explained step by step in this pattern. Once all these squares are crocheted, we will be sewing them together to create the initial shape of the bag.

We will then be sewing these squares together as explained step by step in this pattern. We will then crochet the two identical straps directly onto the assembled bag.

If you wish to line your crochet bag, as I will be doing, please refer to my β€œhow to line a crochet bag” video tutorial which you can find here:

Round 4: Ch 3 (=DC), turn your work, place 2 DC into same 1st stitch; [go directly into next ch sp with 3 DC] twice;

*Place 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC into next ch space (=corner), [go directly into next ch sp with 3 DC] 3 times*

Repeat from * to * two times. Once you reach last chain space, place 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC (=last corner). Sl st through the first ch 3 to close off round.

Create bag shape and sewing

Place your 10 squares on a flat surface as follows:

With tapestry needle and yarn, start sewing all your squares together using the mattress stitch.

Fasten off and tidy up all loose ends.

Once you have sewed all your squares together, we will be adding the pink edging on the top of the bag.

Pink edging on the top opening

Attach yarn in shade Desert Rose onto any stitch of the top opening of the bag.

Once you have attached your pink yarn, you will be placing a SC in each stitch across the entire top opening of the bag as seen in the photo below.

Sewing your straps onto the bag

Turn you project so that the β€œright” side is facing.

Now we will be sewing the two straps onto the inside of the bag, on each side of the bag. You will be using darning needle and thread for this part of the project.

Place your first strap into the bag, with each of the two sides of the straps are placed around 1” away from the edge of the bag. Now sew the straps onto the inside of the bag with darning thread and needle. Make sure you sew your strap at least one inch away from the opening (for a more neat effect). Please sew each side of the strap in really well as there may be some weight placed inside the bag when it is in use.

Repeat this process on the other side.
